Home Interiors,Interior Design ideas.

I specialize in residential decor with an emphasis on creative and cost effective solutions to your interior design needs.

  • colour schemes (  exterior and interior  including flooring, back splashes, cabinetry, etc.)
  • accessorizing plans,
  • art selection and hanging,
  • furniture layout,
  • furniture sourcing and recommendations,
  • window treatment recommendations,

Why hire an interior decorator?

• It’s cost effective
Relying on the expertise of an interior decorator prevents costly mistakes. When buying large ticket items like flooring or furniture you don’t want to make the wrong choice and have to live with the results for years or have the added expense of replacing things. A consultation costs much less than fixing a poor design choice in your home.

• It saves time
Putting together a well thought out design takes an immense amount of time considering, comparing and selecting. Most people lead busy lives and don’t have additional time to source things they want for their home. Even the simplest task in interior decorating-choosing a colour scheme- can be time sensitive if your painter is waiting for your selection or you are on tight time constraints when building a new home.

• It reduces the stress of indecision and poor choice
The sheer number of colour chips and types of paint, flooring or furniture can be overwhelming to someone who only ventures into such decisions periodically. Worrying about making a poor choice and the hassle of spending more money or re-doing a project is replaced by the calm of knowing you’ve hired an expert.

Built-In Storage Ideas

Why Choose Built-ins?
Storage is a common problem for most homeowners, but with effective and clever built-ins, organization is a no-brainer. Because built-ins are custom-made for each space, they maximize every square inch of your home. They can turn empty, unused space into hardworking home offices, drawers, shelves, or even entertainment centers. Essentially, built-in storage units can add hundreds of square feet to your home without the need for renovations.

Modern Bedroom Built-in
A complete bed and storage unit comes standard in this master bedroom. A platform, cabinets, and plenty of drawers make this hard-working bed a built-in masterpiece.

A Day in Their Shoes
This floor-to-ceiling shoe shelf hides neatly behind double doors. The white shelves reflect light into the dark cubbies, making every pair easy to see.

Deep Drawers
In this cheery yellow mudroom, deep built-in drawers provide easy storage, and a countertop is the perfect surface for sorting mail and folding laundry.

Crooked Nook
Irregularly shaped walls and nooks can become functional spaces with a little creativity and a set of built-in bookshelves.

Wash and Wear
By adding a countertop and cabinets, this small nook becomes a fully-functioning laundry room. Even though the space is designed for utility, bright egg-shell paint and banister spindles bring in a bit of personality.

Workspace Wonder
Modular, built-in shelving, an ample work surface, and clean-lined cabinets keep everything organized in this study.

Organized Office
With the clean design of these custom cabinets and drawers, staying organized and concealing mess are not a problem.

Now You See Them ...
We love the idea of appliance hideaways, like these tucked behind sleek, ebony-stained oak cabinets.

Front Row Seat
Window seats aren’t standard in most kitchens, but this little nook makes a perfect perch for prep-time conversations.

Closet Office
By installing a few shelves into an unused closet, you can create a perfect home office. The best part about this small space? Folding doors close to conceal your workstation.

Bedroom Breakfast Spot
This clever bar is tucked into a master suite closet. Outfitted with an espresso machine, the spot offers the ultimate breakfast-in-bed treatment.

Double Duty Playroom
A built-in daybed (sized to fit two twin mattresses) makes a comfy sofa in this kids' playroom and also doubles as extra sleeping for guests or slumber parties. Wood paneling mimics the shape of a traditional sofa, complete with arms and a high back.

Small Service
Utilize every sliver of your kitchen. Here, a pullout pantry transforms an awkward 8-inch space into useful storage.

Modular Miracle
Ready-made shelving makes this closet a hardworking space with a pullout shoe rack and plenty of drawers and shelves.

Step UpFor the little ones in your life, reaching the sink can be a daily test. This clever kids’ bathroom has a stool built into the drawers.

Cozy Nook
Architectural elements add charm to any space, and this built-in seat highlights the beautiful arch above. Lantern sconces and storage bins make this nook feel like a cocoon.

Organization Wall
This custom panel provides hooks for storage and a neatly integrated bench.

Built-in Drop Spot
An entryway bench lends extra storage and character. Laundry baskets underneath hold towels or toys, and the addition can multitask as a handy seat or shelf for backpacks, groceries, or boxes.

Deserted Island
A permanent island wouldn’t fit in this long, narrow kitchen. Instead, a rolling custom cabinet adds stowaway utility.

Custom Buffet
This hardworking buffet provides storage for silver and dishware, plus two display cases for treasured collectibles.

Open Shelving
Cabinets often frame windows, but in this kitchen, shelves span the opening, which backlights the green and turquoise glasses.

Wall of Books
Books of all shapes and sizes complement the simple, sleek architecture of this custom bookshelf.

Open Door
The door to this closet once opened into the room, taking up valuable floor space. By taking off the door and adding a few shelves and simple trim work, this former trouble-spot becomes a studious workspace. A curtain made from hemstitched cotton twin sheets hides a metal filing cabinet below.

Family Nook
In this cozy dining nook, leather benches and beaded-board accents lend cottage charm.

Cottage Parlor
Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves with contrasting interiors accentuate the high ceilings in this cottage parlor.

Interior Design Ideas, Interior Designs, Home Design Ideas

Home decoration is the art of decorating a room so that it looks good, is easy to use and function wells with the existing architecture, The goal of home decoration is to provide a certain "feel" for the room, it encompasses applying wall paper, painting walls and other surfaces, choosing furniture and fittings and providing other decorations like artefacts and sculptures. There is a very thin line between designing and decoration. Interior decoration is generally focused more on finishes, such as wall paper, paint, window covering and furnishings. Interior design leads to be more integrated with the architecture and might also be involved in room layout, cabinet designs, windows and door placement and so on. But whatever is the term, one thing in common is the Design ideas, without which none of the above is possible.

Spacious rooms
If you love the wide open spaces and want the light and airy atmosphere, here are some tips on achieving that sense of spaciousness in your rooms.

- To create a feeling of largeness in your room, eliminate the shadows that tend to slice a room up into smaller spaces. Work on lighting the room with a soft, even light. Avoid ceiling lights as they tend to make the ceiling feel lower. Diffused, ambient lighting will tend to enlarge the room.
  • interior design ideaKeep the surfaces free of heavy textures. Smoother surfaces tend to reflect more light and make the room feel larger.
  • Avoid heavy textured flooring. Choose tile over patterned or textured carpeting. Reflective and shiny surfaces such as mirror and chrome also can be used effectively.
  • Soft colors and monochromatic color schemes. Use cream, beige, gray or cool pastels on your walls and floors to make them recede. The ceiling should always be the lightest color in the room.
  • Limit the use of patterns in the room to create a more airy feeling. A typical application of a pattern might be to reserve it for an accent piece.
  • Selection and placement of furniture in a room is crucial in defining the space. Keep the largest pieces against the walls whenever possible.
  • Choose furniture colors that are the same or similar to those selected for the walls and floors.
Cozy rooms
If you want a cozy and comforted ambience, here are some points to consider a more intimate space.
  • interior design ideasCreate spaces through the use of directed light. Lighting from the ceiling will seem to lower it. A reading lamp or down-shaded lamp will cast light only in its relative vicinity. Use incandescent rather than halogen or florescent lamps for a warmer glow.
  • Choose strong colors for your walls and floor. They will tend to bring them in closer towards one another.
  • A dark floor with walls of brown or deep red, blue or green tones will help create the feeling of a smaller, cozier space.
  • Heavy, soft textures add warmth to a space. Use rougher textures for the hard elements in the room; iron instead of chrome, brick instead of glazed tiles.
  • The use of pattern in a room can also lend a sense of coziness to the space. The subject of mixing patterns in a room will be covered at some future time.
  • Choose dark finishes and fabrics to create a sense of the piece being larger than it actually is. Heavy textured fabrics and large patterns will add a cozy feeling to a sofa or chair.
  • Place pieces away from the wall and use tall pieces to divide and define smaller spaces within a room for greater intimacy.
Room corners
The corners of our rooms can be decorating assets or just a boring space. With a little imagination you can make the corner space work for you and create a beautiful area in your room.
  • The void corner of the room can be fill with natural or artificial tree.
  • An uplight addition will give a beautiful look.
  • Pedestals of varied sizes look good in corners.
  • A table top with a beautiful fabric and a couple of chairs to each side with coordinating fabric on the seats can give a very dramatic look. Add a lamp, your favorite pictures and collectibles for a gorgeous tablescape.
  • A corner cabinet or hanging cupboard is a handsome solution and adds needed storage and display areas as well.
Storages
One of the most important basics in decorating a small space is to purchase furniture that does double or triple duty for storage. Purchasing multiple purpose accessories and furniture allow options that give your living space character and flexibility.
  • Sofa cum bed : A sofa for your living room area might contain a bed for yourself or unexpected visitors.
  • Tables containing drawers or shelves give you other options further storage.
  • Bookshelves with or without doors, can be appropriate for entertainment centers, home offices, kitchen storage or bedroom storage.
  • Bathroom storage units are great for under sink storage. These units increase your storage capacity in a small area.
Theme room
A well-decorated room can still lack personality. To give your room a personality, choose from among these basic design elements, modify them to suit your tastes and implement them in a way which is just right for you.
  1. A Theme - A 'themed' room says something about you, the person who has done it, your family or the place where you live. A theme will also provide you a place to showcase your collections, prized possessions, arts and crafts.
  2. Artifacts - A piece of artistic value will always give your room that special touch you have always wanted. It can add texture and depth to a room.
  3. Collections - It is the most effective way to display your collections in a special arrangement. Whether you collect shells, dolls or trinkets, arrange them tastefully instead of just lining things up in a row. Lining things looks even worse when objects are small in size. Instead, group them together to project variety within your collections.
  4. Color - Color does not get limited to painting the walls of your room. Use colors that make you feel good about them in fabrics, linen, pillows, shelves, curtains etc. Blend colors to suit your style.
  5. Fabrics - Add fabrics to liven up your room with a print that contains the color of your upholstery. To maintain harmony in colors, use the same accent at least thrice around the same

How to Design The Office

The office, where we spend the most significant portion of our working lives, should be aesthetically designed. This is the reason that one should always be very careful about the functionality décor of the working space. Our work space, where we spend at least half our walking time, six days a week, is as important a part of our lives as our homes. The working conditions and the environment in the offices directly affect the way people interact with the family and friends at the end of the day. These also have an influence on our productivity, mental well-being and general health.
Plan the office

To plan an office effectively, the designer should have a thorough understanding of the functional and aesthetic requirements of the client, followed by an in-depth evaluation of the possibilities and constraints of the given space.

An office should ideally have enough space not merely to seat its employees, but to locate ancillary and support services, from the stately boardroom to the humble pantry, as well as for circulation between these areas, with adequate access to stairs and fire escapes.

When planning a given space, it is important to conceive a long term master plan, keeping in mind planned growth and future requirements, even if the intention is only to implement part of the plan now and execute the rest as needs and funds arise.

The Reception

It is the reception area that makes the first impact on the visitor and which colors his expectation of the space ahead. If the business of the company calls for continuous interaction with guests who need to be suitably impressed, then it is important that the reception area be adequately dressed.

  • Office DesigningThe reception can be used to display the company’s product or operations with visuals or models.
  • Alternatively, paintings or aesthetic accessories in the room can be chosen to reflect the company’s taste and style.
  • The receptionist should have direct visual access to be able to keep an eye on office comings and goings.
The Conference

Conference room is the central area of any office and can give impressions to anyone new having meeting in that room

  • Conference should ideally be easily accessible from the entrance, so that the visitors do not have to travel all over the office.
  • The facility of a nearby toilet will be an advantage for the same reason.
  • The equipment necessary for presentations, such as a screen, TV, video monitor, black board, flip chart etc, needs to be provided
  • The furniture and ambience should be designed so that the participants can communicate with each other.
  • The design should provide a calm, neutral background for visual presentation and adequate lighting.
The Ceiling

It is well to remember that ceilings, like any other surface, reflect light and sound, and contribute significantly to the lighting and acoustic qualities of a space.

  • Suspended ceilings are available in different materials, and increasingly, acoustic tiles and panels are becoming standard, especially in open offices and where no special ceiling treatment is required. Usually made of non-combustible which prevents sound waves being reflected back into the room.
  • Holes for recessed lights can be cut out wherever required.
  • Plaster or gypsum board is harder and reflects more sounds then it absorbs.
  • Exposed structural ceiling are sometimes used to create a hi-tech image , as a stylistic alternative to the typical office interior.
The Lightning

Office LightingGood lighting is crucial for effective work, besides which, lighting accounts for a considerable part of the energy consumed in an office. Therefore, the cost effectiveness and the efficiency of lighting should be kept in the mind. On the other hand, it is lighting which makes design come alive and it should be explored accordingly. It can create a warm, inviting and dramatic interior, or result in a cold and monotonous office.

  • One effective use of the standard bulb is as a wall wash, which tends to imbue the whole space with incandescence and makes the room warm and friendly.
  • Incandescent downlights, halogens included, can complement fluorescents and can be used to highlight specific objects, such as desks, plants, paintings, objects, etc.
  • To reduce eye strain and fatigue, high contrasts should be avoided. Use of job oriented, task lights can be practical, if complemented by general lighting.
  • Suspended or pendant lights can serve a dual function in this regard, and while providing overall illumination, can be lowered to concentrate on a given space.
  • A system of selective switching and operational control areawise, or where possible even deskwise, can help restrict usage and operating costs of lighting to only as and when required.
The Flooring

Office flooring is subjected to more wear and tear than any other surface in the room, and it is therefore imperative that it be hardy and resilient.

  • Choice of flooring material will depend on the function of a given area and its requirements where durability, appearance, cost and maintenance are concerned.
  • Flooring materials vary greatly. Hard flooring such as stone, granite, marble, kota are best suited.
  • Wood, cement, terrazzo, ceramic tiles, are the other oprtion but they are usually noisier.
  • Soft coverings such as vinyl or carpeting, but they are hard to maintian.
  • Flooring can be used as a design tool not only in an obvious choice of material and color, but to demarcate departments, private/public areas and circulation paths, by a selective use of different hues and surfaces.
The Storage

While providing enough storage the emphasis today should be on eliminating unnecessary garbage.

  • The basic storage units such as the cupboards, filing cabinets, drawer unit, open shelf, are still as useful as ever, whether they are free standing or built into walls, or used in lieu of the partitions to save space.
  • In addition we have certain new innovations such as filing shelves which move on tracks, and which completely fill a given space.
  • Furniture too can be designed to save space, using the space above and below work tops.
The Pantry

For offices that can afford the space, a clean well designed and pleasant looking cafeteria or canteen will help employees relax.

  • The basic storage units such as the cupboards, filing cabinets, drawer unit, open shelf, are still as useful as ever, whether they are free standing or built into walls, or used in lieu of the partitions to save space.
  • A storage cupboard, shelves or hooks can hold the cups and saucers, plates, cutlery, tea, coffee, sugar, etc. A small compact refrigerator is useful for storing milk, cold drinks, preserving food items, etc.
  • A good garbage storage system will help circumvent the inevitable mass of tea dregs, papers etc.
  • Disposable plastic cups, plates, if economically viable can save on maintenance and cleaning.
The Toilets

Coming to the toilets, which perhaps more than any other room, reveals the true class of a company, its attitude to cleanliness and the activity of its employees and visitors.

  • Bathrooms don’t have to be exotic, but they do have to be adequate in number for the staff employed and they have to be clean.
  • They should have tiled surface, preferably in light plain shades which are not overpowering and which cannot be scrubbed down easily.
  • Separate toilets for men and women are statutory to a given number of employees. The traps, the Indian and the western WC with the urinals to accommodate all the users.
  • If ventilation is less than ideal, an exhaust or ceiling fan may help, for there are few things as off-putting as a smelly toilet.
  • Facilities for dispensing toilet paper, towel, hand dryer etc, should be provided.
Thus , planning the ideal offices large and small, opulent and spartan, the professionals can help make the complicated thing, simple to understand and to work out.
